What a Photoshoot in Iceland Costs (2026): Packages, Extras and What Moves the Price

The short answer

If you let us hand-pick your photographer (Quick Booking), the price is fixed and all-in:

"All-in" means exactly that: the price you see is the price you pay. Nothing is added at checkout, and the photographer's time, editing, your private gallery and our support are all inside it. Groups of nine or more people carry a +50% surcharge, which is shown before you pay.

Two ways to book, two ways prices are set

Quick Booking: we choose the photographer

You tell us the occasion, the region, the date and the duration; we match you with a vetted local photographer within 24 hours. Your card is authorised but only charged once the photographer is confirmed. If we cannot find anyone for your date, nothing is charged. It is the simplest route and the cheapest entry point.

Booking a photographer directly

Every photographer on our list also publishes their own packages: their own durations, photo counts, delivery times and prices. Some are cheaper than Quick Booking for a short session in town; some cost considerably more because they include a full day on the road. Compare the packages side by side — the price on the page is again all-in.

What is included

• The photographer's time at the location, plus the planning chat beforehand (meeting point, outfit ideas, plan B for weather).
• Professional editing of the delivered photos: colour, light, crop. Heavy retouching is not standard unless the package says so.
• A private, password-protected online gallery with high-resolution downloads, individually or as one ZIP. It stays open for 90 days.
• Secure payment through Stripe, and our support if anything goes wrong.

Not included, unless a package explicitly says so: entry tickets (the Blue Lagoon, for instance, sells its own), guided tours such as ice caves or glacier walks, transport between locations, and prints.

What changes the price

Distance from Reykjavik

Most of Iceland's population lives in and around Reykjavik, and so do most photographers. Time on the road is time not spent shooting. The further your location, the longer the package you realistically need — or the more sense it makes to pick a photographer already based in the region.

The rule of thumb: an hour is plenty for one location, but not for one location plus a long drive. Where a photographer charges a separate travel fee, it is stated in the package.

Season and light: winter and northern lights

Northern lights are visible from September to April. An aurora session is night work with long exposures, which means fewer frames, a tripod, and a dependency on both clear skies and solar activity. Photographers usually price it as a two-hour session at least, and a second attempt on another night is common — agree in advance whether that second attempt is included. From late May to July the midnight sun turns the "golden hour" into several hours, and a session at 11 pm is completely normal. Prices do not change with the season; the light and the odds of a clean shoot do — see the best time of year for photos in Iceland.

Weddings and elopements

An elopement or a small wedding is priced by hours of coverage: the ceremony, the portraits, sometimes the drive between two spots. Most photographers quote those individually rather than through a fixed package, so send the plan and ask. Read what eloping in Iceland actually takes before you fix the timings.

Extra photos

Each package includes a set number of edited photos. If you want more than that, the photographer can offer additional photos in your gallery at their own price per image, payable online, for as long as the gallery is open.

A second location

A package is planned around one location. A second spot within a short drive fits a two-hour session; anything further apart means the three-hour package or a custom quote. Ask the photographer — they know how long the light and the parking actually take.

Group size

Nine people or more add 50% to the price. Below that, the number of people does not change it.

Tipping in Iceland

Tipping is not customary in Iceland; service is included in prices everywhere, from restaurants to taxis. Photographers do not expect a tip and there is no tip line on the platform. If you were happy, a review on the photographer's profile is worth more to them than cash.

How payment works

1. You pay online by card through Stripe when you book. With Quick Booking the card is only charged once your photographer is confirmed.
2. The money is held by Stripe — it is not sent to the photographer at booking.
3. After the shoot the photographer uploads your gallery. You have 7 days to accept it or open a dispute; if you do nothing for 14 days, it is released automatically.
4. Only then is the photographer paid. After the shoot you receive two invoices — one from the photographer, one from Photo Iceland — that add up to exactly what you paid.

If delivery is 3 or more days later than the package promised, you can ask for a partial refund of up to 20%; at 14 days late, a full one.

Weather, rescheduling and refunds

Iceland's weather cancels plans; that is not a risk, it is the baseline. The rules are built for it:

• Weather-related rescheduling is always free. A storm warning, sideways rain, fog at the waterfall — you and the photographer pick a new slot.
• Otherwise you get one free reschedule if you ask at least 48 hours ahead; inside 48 hours it is at the photographer's discretion.
• Cancellation: 7 or more days before the shoot, 100% refund; 3–7 days, 50%; under 3 days or a no-show, no refund.
• If the photographer cancels, you are refunded in full whatever the timing, and inside 48 hours we try to find a replacement.
• Force majeure — severe weather warnings, volcanic activity — entitles both sides to a full refund or a free reschedule.

Two practical consequences. Book the shoot early in your trip so there is a spare day to move it to. And at Reynisfjara, listen to the photographer: sneaker waves reach far up the black sand without warning, and no frame is worth standing at the waterline.

Questions to settle before you pay

• Where exactly do we meet, and is travel to the location included?
• How many edited photos, and how many days until delivery?
• What happens if the weather turns — which day is our backup?
• For northern lights: is a second attempt included if the sky stays closed?
• For elopements: how many hours of coverage, and does the ceremony count?

Answer those, and the price on the page is the price of your photos. No surprises — which, in Iceland, is worth something.
