Honeymoon Photoshoot in Iceland

You chose Iceland for your honeymoon because you wanted something no beach resort could give you — so don't let the only record of it be phone selfies with your thumbs in frame. A honeymoon session here is half photoshoot, half adventure date: steam rising off a lagoon at dawn, the two of you small against a glacier, wrapped in one blanket at a waterfall, warming up with cocoa afterwards. Your photographer is also your local insider — the pool the tour buses miss, the viewpoint five minutes past where everyone stops. Years from now, these are the photos you'll pull out first: young, married, windswept, at the edge of the world.

Honeymoon Photoshoot FAQ

Is a honeymoon photoshoot worth it in Iceland?

Consider what you're already spending to be here — flights, a 4x4, waterfall-view hotels — and then consider that your record of it all would otherwise be selfies and a few strangers' kind attempts with your phone. A two-hour session is a small line in a honeymoon budget and the only part of the trip that appreciates with time. It also solves the classic problem of one partner always being the photographer and never being in the frame. Couples tell us afterwards the shoot itself — exploring with a local who knows the island — was one of the best mornings of the trip.

When during our trip should we schedule the shoot?

Early — day two or three, not the last day. Iceland's weather will move things around, and an early slot leaves room to reschedule; a last-day booking has no safety net, and airport-day stress shows in photos. An early session also hands you a bonus: your photographer becomes your scout, and the tips you pick up — where to eat in Vík, which hot spring is empty at 8am — upgrade the rest of the trip. If your route circles the island, tell us; a photographer in the north can catch you at Mývatn or Akureyri mid-loop.

Can we combine the shoot with a hot spring or lagoon visit?

Yes, and it's one of the most distinctive honeymoon sessions Iceland offers — steam, robes, milky-blue water and lava all around. A note on logistics: commercial lagoons have their own photography rules, so photographers typically shoot around the lagoon landscape and entrances rather than in the bathing area itself, or use natural geothermal spots where the rules are yours. Steam is glorious but technically demanding — early morning cold makes it thickest, and your photographer will position you so it glows rather than obscures. Bring a robe; the walk-to-the-water shots are always favourites.

We eloped elsewhere — can we do an after-wedding session in Iceland?

This is one of our favourite bookings: bring the dress and suit in your luggage and wear them again somewhere your wedding venue could never be. Black sand, glacier ice and waterfall mist against white fabric is the most striking after-wedding look in Europe. Practicalities: pack the dress in carry-on, expect the hem to meet mud and love it (the style is literally called trash-the-dress, though nothing actually gets ruined), and let your photographer bring clamps and a blanket. Winter sessions in wedding wear are short and cold — we alternate five minutes shooting, five minutes in the warm car — but the frost-and-white-dress frames are worth every shiver.
