For summer dates (June-August) and the aurora-season Saturdays, 6-12 months ahead is realistic — Iceland's wedding photographer pool is small and destination couples book early. Shoulder-season and weekday weddings often find excellent availability at 2-3 months. Book the photographer as early as the venue: in a wedding here, the images are arguably the point — most couples choose Iceland precisely for how it will look. When you enquire, share your date, venue or region, and rough guest count; you'll get portfolios matched to your kind of wedding rather than a generic list.

Icelandic weddings usually need less ballroom time and more road time than weddings elsewhere. A typical intimate wedding books 6-8 hours: preparations, ceremony, family groups, then a generous portrait block that may involve driving to a waterfall or beach — that drive is where Iceland earns its keep, so don't squeeze it. Large hotel weddings with evening parties run to 10-12 hours or a second shooter. And consider the local trick: a shorter wedding-day coverage plus a separate day-after session in full wedding wear at the landscape locations. It costs less than extending the day and delivers the epic frames without stealing you from your own party.

Assume four seasons will attend your wedding, and plan so that none of them can ruin it. The practical framework our photographers use: an indoor or sheltered ceremony option confirmed with the venue; a portrait window kept flexible within the day rather than fixed to the minute; locations chosen in pairs — one exposed and spectacular, one sheltered and intimate — with the call made on the day; and clear agreements about the couple's tolerance (some couples want the storm photos; some want to stay dry — both are valid and both make great galleries). Wind is managed with location angles and a firm grip on the veil; rain with clear umbrellas that photograph beautifully. They can, with one honest warning: every person added to a location move adds friction, and Icelandic locations punish friction — parking is finite, walks are windy, and the light won't wait for stragglers. The format that works: bring everyone to one accessible, spectacular spot for a big group photo (Thingvellir's viewpoints and Skógafoss's plateau handle a crowd easily), then send the guests toward the reception while the two of you continue to the more demanding locations with just the photographer. You get the full-cast image and the intimate portraits, and your grandmother is never standing in horizontal rain wondering why she came.
