What moves the price, and why Iceland costs more

Why an hour costs more here. A typical hour at €750 costs more than in most of Europe. Iceland is among the continent's most expensive countries, weather moves sessions often enough that a backup date is part of the plan, and winter daylight is short: around the December solstice the sun is up here from about 11:20 to 15:35. The Blue Lagoon is the easy end of the country: about 20 minutes from Keflavík airport and under an hour from Reykjavík, where most photographers live.

The ticket and the rules. The lagoon sells its own timed tickets, and they are not in any package. Inside, its rules apply: phones and cameras for personal use are welcome, cameras stay out of the changing rooms, and a professional shoot has to be arranged with the lagoon in advance. So most sessions happen on the lava paths around the water.

The occasion. Weddings and elopements are quoted by the day or half day. Half days here run from €1,265 to €1,495, typically €1,380 with about 35 edited photos: time for the lagoon and a second stop on the Reykjanes coast. Season. A package costs the same in July as in January. On cold, still days the steam over the water is thickest and the low winter sun keeps the light soft; in summer the evening light lasts until close to midnight.

Eruptions nearby. Since late 2023 the Reykjanes peninsula has erupted repeatedly a few kilometres from the lagoon, which has closed temporarily more than once. Check that it is open for your date. If an eruption closes the area, the booking terms treat it as force majeure: a full refund or a free new date.

What the price includes

• Edited high-resolution photos in a private, password-protected gallery: watermarked previews first, then, once you approve the delivery, the photos you booked at full resolution, singly or as a ZIP.
• Delivery on the schedule stated in the package.
• Payment held by the platform until your photos are delivered; your card is charged only once the photographer confirms the date.
• Cancellation: a full refund 7 or more days before, 50% between 7 and 3 days, nothing inside 3 days. One free reschedule if you ask 48 hours ahead; moving for bad weather is always free.
• Extra photos: photographers usually shoot more than the package promises, and those frames may be offered in the same gallery at a price the photographer sets — optional, never instead of what you booked.

Where the shoot happens

• The lava field around the lagoon. Moss-covered lava and milky-blue water outside the paid area, along the paths to the entrance. Overcast light, Iceland's default, suits these colours best.
• Inside the lagoon. Steam, silica-white water, footbridges. Personal cameras are welcome; a professional session is agreed with the lagoon beforehand, and everyone needs a ticket. On a cold, still morning the steam hangs thickest.
• Gunnuhver and Reykjanesviti. Further out on the peninsula: the steaming mud pools of Gunnuhver and the lighthouse on its hill near the sea cliffs. Access can change with volcanic activity, so check on the day.
• The Bridge Between Continents. A footbridge over a sandy rift, symbolically between the North American and Eurasian plates: a quick, flat stop with a story.
