Two to two and a half hours by road, paved the whole way. Once you are on the peninsula the distances are short — Kirkjufell, Arnarstapi and Stykkishólmur are twenty to forty minutes apart — so two locations in one session is realistic here, which it is not on the south coast. Hraunfossar sits inland on the way out from the capital, about an hour and three quarters, and makes a natural first or last stop.

Sunrise and the last light. Kirkjufell in particular is a two-minute walk from the car park and busy in between, so the ends of the day are the difference between an empty frame and a row of tripods. Summer evenings stay bright until nearly midnight; winter turns the whole short day golden; and from September to April the aurora over the peak is the peninsula's signature — a clear forecast makes it possible, never certain.

Changeable, and faster than almost anywhere else on the list. The glacier makes its own weather: the cone is clear one hour and swallowed the next, rain arrives sideways, and the wind off Breiðafjörður is serious rather than picturesque. Build one or two hours of flexibility into the day and agree a fallback when you book — Stykkishólmur is the region's bad-weather plan, because everything worth photographing there is within a ten-minute walk.

Usually, yes — photographers who list studio sessions either own their space or include the rental in the package, and the price you see at booking is the price you pay. The exception is when you request a specific external studio or a large set for a group; then the photographer will tell you about any extra cost before you confirm, never after. When comparing packages, check what else is bundled: number of edited images, retouching level, and whether an outdoor add-on is possible. Icelandic studios vary from daylight lofts to full-flash setups, so look at the portfolio to see which look you're actually buying.

Typically two to three in a one-hour session, more in longer bookings — the studio has a changing area, so the limit is time, not logistics. For headshots, bring two tops in different tones (one light, one dark) and let the photographer choose the background to match. For personal branding, think in scenes: the professional look, the relaxed working look, and — this is Iceland — the lopapeysa sweater, which clients from abroad ask for constantly and which reads as effortlessly local. Solid colours and texture photograph best; fine stripes and tiny patterns moiré under studio light.

It's the most popular format in Iceland, and it's the smart one: the studio portion is guaranteed regardless of the forecast, and the outdoor portion adds the frames that only Iceland can give you. In Reykjavik, the harbour, the old town and the shoreline are minutes from most studios; a 90-minute session can cover a clean headshot set and a windswept coastal portrait without any driving. For families visiting in winter, the studio-first order matters — kids are fresh and warm for the formal frames, then get to run around outside for the fun ones. Book the combined option or ask your photographer; most will build the split around the light on the day.
