Each photographer sets their own price for a photoshoot at Vestrahorn: every package on their profile shows an all-inclusive price, and nothing is added at checkout. Packages vary by duration and the number of edited photos — a short session works the dunes and the tidal mirror below the mountain, a longer one adds the Viking film set on the sand or the harbour at Höfn, fifteen minutes away. The entry fee for the Stokksnes land is paid on site and is not part of the photography price.

Yes. The beach and the headland are private farmland, and access runs through the Viking Café at the gate, which charges a modest entry fee per person and keeps its own opening hours — both change with the season, so check before the day and bring a card. The same road leads to a Viking film set left standing on the sand, an optional extra scene. Commercial shoots are welcome, but it is worth telling the café what you are doing when you arrive.

Around low tide, when a thin film of water stays on the flats and doubles the peaks — an hour either side is the working window, so photographers plan the session around the tide table rather than the clock. Wind ends the mirror in seconds, so on a calm day the reflection frames come first and the dune frames after. If the tide is wrong, the tussock dunes with the mountain behind are the other signature composition, and they work at any hour.

All of them, for different pictures. Summer brings green tussocks and a sun that circles the mountain almost all night. Autumn turns the dune grass copper. Winter puts snow on the ridges, and the short day behaves like one long golden hour — this is also one of the country's best aurora foregrounds from September to April, with a dark, wide-open sky. Whatever the month, plan for wind: the black sand lifts hard enough to sting, so a session here works in bursts with gear covered between them.

Every age works; the plan changes. First birthdays are about the parents and the setting — the baby in a snowsuit against a waterfall is a keepsake, and sessions stay short and close to the car. Ages three to seven are the golden years: old enough to be amazed by a geyser, young enough to show it without self-consciousness. Older kids and tweens want to feel like adventurers, so their sessions lean toward exploring — boardwalks, whale boats, the rift valley — with the birthday moment folded in. Tell your photographer the exact age and personality when booking; a five-year-old who loves puddles and a ten-year-old who hates posing get very different, equally good, sessions.

Then nobody asks them to. Our children's photographers don't run posing sessions — they run adventures with a camera present. A shy child gets space and a slow start: the photographer shoots the landscape, chats with the parents, lets the child decide when to get curious about the big lens. Iceland does the rest; it's very hard to stay withdrawn when the ground steams and a geyser is about to go. The birthday shots come from moments, not commands — the crown going on, the first look at the cake, a hand pointing at a whale. If a child truly has a rough moment, we pause, warm up, and come back to it. The gallery never shows the pause.
