Svartifoss, the slender white fall dropping over a colonnade of dark hexagonal basalt — the formation that inspired Hallgrímskirkja's tower — with Hundafoss and Magnúsarfoss on the trail up; the snout of Skaftafellsjökull, a grey-blue wall of crevassed ice above a meltwater lagoon, a flat forty-minute walk from the visitor centre; and the Sjónarnípa viewpoint, which stacks glacier, black outwash plain and sea in one frame.

Late morning for Svartifoss, when the sun finally reaches into its basalt amphitheatre; late afternoon for the glacier tongue, when low light picks out the blue in the ice. Summer's long days make the hikes relaxed, and around midsummer the light barely fades. In winter the trails are icy and daylight lasts four to five hours, but this is also ice-cave season — the caves are only entered with a licensed guide, never alone.

Skaftafell is part of Vatnajökull National Park, so stay on the marked paths and leave the drone at home — flying needs a permit from the park. Pose in front of the ice, never on it: walking onto a glacier without a licensed guide is genuinely dangerous, and guided glacier walks leave from the visitor-centre area if you want that frame. Skaftafell is about four and a half hours from Reykjavík and under an hour from Jökulsárlón.

For summer dates (June-August) and the aurora-season Saturdays, 6-12 months ahead is realistic — Iceland's wedding photographer pool is small and destination couples book early. Shoulder-season and weekday weddings often find excellent availability at 2-3 months. Book the photographer as early as the venue: in a wedding here, the images are arguably the point — most couples choose Iceland precisely for how it will look. Icelandic weddings usually need less ballroom time and more road time than weddings elsewhere. Large hotel weddings with evening parties run to 10-12 hours or a second shooter. And consider the local trick: a shorter wedding-day coverage plus a separate day-after session in full wedding wear at the landscape locations. It costs less than extending the day and delivers the epic frames without stealing you from your own party.
