Professional photoshoots here start from €279. Packages vary by duration and the number of edited images, and distance shapes the choice more than usual: an hour covers one place well, while two hours can link the cliff top with the wreck of Garðar BA 64 or the red sand at Rauðasandur. Roads between them are gravel and slow, so agree the driving time with your photographer when you book rather than on the day.

The cliff edge at Bjargtangar, Europe's westernmost point, where the turf drops 440 metres and puffins nest on the lip from roughly late April to early August. Rauðasandur's ten kilometres of pink-to-red sand, with the black timber church at Saurbær alone on the slope behind. The rusted hull of Garðar BA 64 upright on the grass at Skápadalur. And Patreksfjörður's harbour, where the boats and painted houses give a sheltered plan B.

The cliff faces west into the Atlantic, so late evening is its hour — in June and July the sun barely sets and the light stays warm past midnight, which is also when the puffins are most active and the car park empties. Season decides the rest: roughly late April to early August for the birds, and June to September for comfortable roads. Rauðasandur changes colour with the tide, so time it for low water.

It is about an hour and a half of gravel from Patreksfjörður on Road 612, narrow and slow in any car, and the descent to Rauðasandur on Road 614 is steep single-track with blind bends. Both are effectively summer roads: check current road conditions before setting out, and fill up in Patreksfjörður because there is no fuel beyond it. On the cliff, stay well back — the edge is undercut turf with nothing beneath it.

Usually, yes — photographers who list studio sessions either own their space or include the rental in the package, and the price you see at booking is the price you pay. The exception is when you request a specific external studio or a large set for a group; then the photographer will tell you about any extra cost before you confirm, never after. When comparing packages, check what else is bundled: number of edited images, retouching level, and whether an outdoor add-on is possible. Icelandic studios vary from daylight lofts to full-flash setups, so look at the portfolio to see which look you're actually buying.

Typically two to three in a one-hour session, more in longer bookings — the studio has a changing area, so the limit is time, not logistics. For headshots, bring two tops in different tones (one light, one dark) and let the photographer choose the background to match. For personal branding, think in scenes: the professional look, the relaxed working look, and — this is Iceland — the lopapeysa sweater, which clients from abroad ask for constantly and which reads as effortlessly local. Solid colours and texture photograph best; fine stripes and tiny patterns moiré under studio light.
