Each photographer sets their own price for a photoshoot at Diamond Beach, by duration and the number of edited photos: every package on their profile shows an all-inclusive price, and nothing is added at checkout. It is almost always sold together with Jökulsárlón, two minutes across the bridge: the lagoon's icebergs first, then the stranded ice on the black sand in the last light. Edited galleries usually arrive within about a week.

Anywhere the ice has landed that day: get low so a clear, polished block fills the foreground against the black sand, and shoot into the low sun so it lights up like glass. The eastern side of the river mouth often holds more ice and fewer people than the car park by the bridge; a crouch beside a car-sized berg needs no direction, and the surf breaking behind adds the drama.

Backlit low sun is everything here, so sunrise and the last hour before sunset are the slots; in winter the sun stays low enough to keep that angle most of the short day, with only four to five hours of light in December. How much ice is on the sand changes daily with tide and storms — some mornings the beach is strewn, some it is bare — so treat the diamonds as a bonus to the lagoon.

With the same discipline as Reynisfjara, yes. The Atlantic here is violent and sneaker waves reach far up the sand without warning, so everyone stays off the wet sand and nobody ever climbs on ice near the waterline — the blocks are glass-slippery and the surf can shift them. Pose beside the ice, not on it, keep an eye on the sea the whole time, and let your photographer choose the marks.

Every age works; the plan changes. First birthdays are about the parents and the setting — the baby in a snowsuit against a waterfall is a keepsake, and sessions stay short and close to the car. Ages three to seven are the golden years: old enough to be amazed by a geyser, young enough to show it without self-consciousness. Older kids and tweens want to feel like adventurers, so their sessions lean toward exploring — boardwalks, whale boats, the rift valley — with the birthday moment folded in. Tell your photographer the exact age and personality when booking; a five-year-old who loves puddles and a ten-year-old who hates posing get very different, equally good, sessions.

Then nobody asks them to. Our children's photographers don't run posing sessions — they run adventures with a camera present. A shy child gets space and a slow start: the photographer shoots the landscape, chats with the parents, lets the child decide when to get curious about the big lens. Iceland does the rest; it's very hard to stay withdrawn when the ground steams and a geyser is about to go. The birthday shots come from moments, not commands — the crown going on, the first look at the cake, a hand pointing at a whale. If a child truly has a rough moment, we pause, warm up, and come back to it. The gallery never shows the pause.
