Book a Kids Birthday Photoshoot
on the Reykjanes Peninsula

Each photographer sets their own price for a photoshoot on Reykjanes: every package on their profile shows an all-inclusive price, and nothing is added at checkout. Packages differ by length and the number of edited images: a one-hour session covers a single scene, such as the Bridge Between Continents or the lighthouse hill, while a two-hour package links two or three stops along the coast road. Because the peninsula sits fifteen minutes from Keflavík airport, many couples book it as an arrival-day or departure-day session rather than adding a separate travel day.

Four carry a session. The Bridge Between Continents spans the Álfagjá rift with its sand-floored gorge below; Gunnuhver is a field of boiling mud where the steam swallows a figure ten metres away; Reykjanesviti, Iceland's oldest lighthouse, stands white on a green hill above the Valahnúkamöl sea stacks, with Brimketill's lava rock pool a few minutes back along the road; and inland Kleifarvatn spreads black sand and still water under a ridge.

The peninsula faces open ocean to the south and west, so sunset light runs straight along the lava and the cliffs — the strongest hour of the day here. Winter widens that window until the whole short day is low and golden, and cold air thickens the steam at Gunnuhver, which is exactly what the pictures want. Summer trades that for the midnight sun and long, soft evenings. Bright overcast, Iceland's default, suits the geothermal ground best.

It depends on the week, so check rather than assume. The peninsula has erupted repeatedly since 2021, and roads, footpaths and individual sites can close at very short notice while a fissure is active. Check the Icelandic road administration and SafeTravel the day before your session, and agree a Reykjavík or Blue Lagoon fallback with your photographer when you book. Never walk toward an active fissure for a frame, and stay on the boardwalks in every geothermal field.

Every age works; the plan changes. First birthdays are about the parents and the setting — the baby in a snowsuit against a waterfall is a keepsake, and sessions stay short and close to the car. Ages three to seven are the golden years: old enough to be amazed by a geyser, young enough to show it without self-consciousness. Older kids and tweens want to feel like adventurers, so their sessions lean toward exploring — boardwalks, whale boats, the rift valley — with the birthday moment folded in. Tell your photographer the exact age and personality when booking; a five-year-old who loves puddles and a ten-year-old who hates posing get very different, equally good, sessions.

Then nobody asks them to. Our children's photographers don't run posing sessions — they run adventures with a camera present. A shy child gets space and a slow start: the photographer shoots the landscape, chats with the parents, lets the child decide when to get curious about the big lens. Iceland does the rest; it's very hard to stay withdrawn when the ground steams and a geyser is about to go. The birthday shots come from moments, not commands — the crown going on, the first look at the cake, a hand pointing at a whale. If a child truly has a rough moment, we pause, warm up, and come back to it. The gallery never shows the pause.
