At Geysir, the star is Strokkur, which erupts every five to ten minutes — stand upwind on the boardwalk and let the column of water fill the frame. At Gullfoss, work both levels: the upper viewpoint for the full two-tier canyon drop, and the lower path that walks you almost beside the falls, where spray rainbows appear whenever the sun is out.

Before ten in the morning or after five in the afternoon — between those hours both sites are on every Golden Circle itinerary. Midday sun is actually useful at Gullfoss, throwing rainbows into the spray, while low morning light gives Strokkur's steam its shape. In summer, the midnight-sun evenings leave both sites nearly empty in beautiful light.

A two-hour session is a small line in a honeymoon budget and the only part of the trip that appreciates with time. Early — day two or three, not the last day. Iceland's weather will move things around, and an early slot leaves room to reschedule; a last-day booking has no safety net, and airport-day stress shows in photos.
