It is the far side of the Ring Road. Vestrahorn, near Höfn, is about six hours from Reykjavik; Seyðisfjörður and Stuðlagil are further round again. Egilsstaðir, the region's town, has an airport with roughly an hour's flight from the capital, and most clients reach the east mid-trip while circling the island rather than driving out and back. The three locations sit an hour or more apart, so one session takes one of them.

The mountain faces roughly south-east, so sunrise lights the face and sunset makes a silhouette over the wet sand; in winter the whole short day behaves like golden hour. The mirror on the tidal flat depends on the tide and is best about an hour either side of low water, so check the tide table when you fix the time. From September to April this is one of the darkest, most open aurora foregrounds in the country — and the wind lifts the black sand hard enough to sting, so boots and a plan for the dress matter.

The beach under Vestrahorn is private farmland, and access runs through the Viking Café at the gate, which charges an entry fee per person and keeps seasonal opening hours — check both before you drive out, since they change through the year. The same track leads on to the Viking film set left standing on the sand. The rest of the east is free to walk — Seyðisfjörður and Stuðlagil have no gate at all — though the Fjarðarheiði pass to Seyðisfjörður closes in storms.

Iceland's weather will move things around, and an early slot leaves room to reschedule; a last-day booking has no safety net, and airport-day stress shows in photos. A note on logistics: commercial lagoons have their own photography rules, so photographers typically shoot around the lagoon landscape and entrances rather than in the bathing area itself, or use natural geothermal spots where the rules are yours. Steam is glorious but technically demanding — early morning cold makes it thickest, and your photographer will position you so it glows rather than obscures. Bring a robe; the walk-to-the-water shots are always favourites.
