Each photographer sets their own price for a photoshoot in Arnarstapi, by duration and the number of edited photos: every package on their profile shows an all-inclusive price, and nothing is added at checkout. A short session works the cliff path and the Gatklettur arch; a longer Snæfellsnes shoot walks on to Hellnar or adds the black church at Búðir, twenty minutes east. Edited galleries usually arrive within about a week.

Gatklettur, the circular stone arch with surf bursting through it, best from the west side in evening light; the basalt-columned inlets along the cliff path, where the sea booms into caves below your feet; the huge stone figure of Bárður Snæfellsás, the peninsula's half-troll guardian, for a mythic silhouette; and above it all Snæfellsjökull, the glacier-capped volcano that catches the last pink light behind the hamlet.

The ends of the day, when the cliff path is empty and the arch takes the low light from the west. In June and July the sun sets far in the north-west and the glow lasts past midnight; that is also tern season, when the birds dive-bomb anyone near a nest, so a hat helps. In winter expect four to five hours of low golden light, fast weather changes and serious wind on the peninsula.

About two and a quarter hours by car on paved roads, so it works as a long day trip or, better, an overnight on Snæfellsnes. Kirkjufell is 45 minutes away across the peninsula, which makes a two-session day easy: Arnarstapi's cliffs in the afternoon, Kirkjufell at sunset or sunrise. Self-driving is the practical choice here; the coast road is straightforward in summer, but check road conditions and wind warnings from October to April.

Every age works; the plan changes. First birthdays are about the parents and the setting — the baby in a snowsuit against a waterfall is a keepsake, and sessions stay short and close to the car. Ages three to seven are the golden years: old enough to be amazed by a geyser, young enough to show it without self-consciousness. Older kids and tweens want to feel like adventurers, so their sessions lean toward exploring — boardwalks, whale boats, the rift valley — with the birthday moment folded in. Tell your photographer the exact age and personality when booking; a five-year-old who loves puddles and a ten-year-old who hates posing get very different, equally good, sessions.

Then nobody asks them to. Our children's photographers don't run posing sessions — they run adventures with a camera present. A shy child gets space and a slow start: the photographer shoots the landscape, chats with the parents, lets the child decide when to get curious about the big lens. Iceland does the rest; it's very hard to stay withdrawn when the ground steams and a geyser is about to go. The birthday shots come from moments, not commands — the crown going on, the first look at the cake, a hand pointing at a whale. If a child truly has a rough moment, we pause, warm up, and come back to it. The gallery never shows the pause.
